Top Mistakes to Avoid When Moving Your Home in Sydney

Relocating to a bigger and better house can be a joyous thing. Sydney is a big city, and if you don’t manage the moving process right, it can turn out to be a nightmare. Imagine losing your important documents or breaking your precious plants while moving them. Here we are telling you about the top mistakes people make while moving their home and how you can avoid them.

Top Mistakes to Avoid When Moving Your Home in Sydney

1.       Not having a Plan
Many people make the mistake of thinking that they can get all the details of the moving process in their head. They don’t make a list, they often do not communicate effectively with the furniture removalist they have hired and they don’t even bother to inform people about the move.
You must avoid these mistakes by writing down everything on your laptop and making a checklist that you use to decide which moving actions have you taken and which ones you have left.

2.       Not being prepared in Advance
People also make the mistake of not being prepared for the move in advance. They spend a lot of time in packing and yet they leave some goods to be packed on the day of the move. The result, they often forget to pack the important stuff and leave it behind when the furniture removalist is at their door.
So a smart idea would be to pack everything except your essentials box well before the moving day so that when the movers arrive at your door, you would have ample time to give them directions.

3.       Not Sorting Out
You cannot afford to pack the kitchen stuff with office goods or pack your electronics with your books. You must keep an exclusive box for every category and pack everything after sorting it out. While packing, if you think that you don’t need any item, donate it or throw it away.
It would reduce your tension and the amount of stuff you need to move from one place to another. If everything in your stuff is nicely categorized, the unpacking process would be easier too. Also, don’t forget to add a proper label to each of the boxes as you can’t trust your memory on what stuff is in which box.

4.       Not Investing in the Move
Moving a home is a vital event of your life. Do not ruin it by investing in cheap products in order to save a few dollars. You must buy only high-quality tapes, markers, packing boxes and other supplies you need.
Investing in coloured tapes and categorizing the stuff as per the colour of the tape is a smart idea. For instance, you can seal all the kitchen stuff boxes with red coloured tape and all the office related stuff in boxes with a brown tape.

5.       Not Updating Yourself
If you think that hiring a good furniture removals company and handing over the moving task to them is a good idea then you might not be altogether correct. Mark Johnson, Customer Support Executive at Holloway Furniture Removals, says that there are some items that are usually on the prohibited list of the removalist company. It may include perishables, hazardous goods, pets, plants, etc.

You need to understand that these items can only be moved by you and you need to rent a car for it if you don't own one. If you can’t move the stuff immediately, you should make arrangements to leave them with a friend or neighbour for some time.
