Useful Redecorating Ideas for the End of the Year

The holidays are approaching fast, which means that soon everyone will have a house full of guests waiting to open up presents and eat a savory turkey dinner. But who wants to have company over if your home is looking a little shabby? Luckily, there are some easy ways to redecorate that won't cost a fortune.

A Fresh Coat of Paint

Paint is one of the most cost efficient ways to freshen up a room. Pick a cheerful color that will look good in any season though. Sometimes, people make the mistake of painting their walls a shade that matches holiday decor. But after the holidays pass, the color won't be appealing anymore.

Clean Things Up
Simply getting rid of some excess junk can make a house look better fast. Rent a dumpster for a few days, then throw out old broken furniture or items that you don't want. This is so much easier because you don't have to keep making trips to the landfill. Some companies, like Lakeshore Recycling, know that when the dumpster is full, all you have to do is call to have it picked up. Many people order dumpsters for cleaning late in the year, so schedule one to be dropped off right away to be sure that you can get one in time.

Chair Rails
A chair rail is a strip of molding that is put at about the same height as the top of a chair. So when a person sits back against the wall, the chair won't scratch the paint. Besides being functional, chair rails are also really pretty. For the best effect, pick out molding that is a few inches wide. Then, attach it with a nail gun.

Rugs
The floor is just as important as the walls. It should be clean and free of debris when guests come over, so be sure to clean your carpets or completely replace them if they are badly stained. If you can't afford new carpeting for the whole house, then consider purchasing a large area rug for each of the rooms that your guests will be spending the most time in. They will cover the majority of the floor, so it will look more attractive. Strategically place your furniture around the rugs to hide any spots that aren't hidden by them.

As you can see, you don't have to do major construction to improve the appearance of your home. Just be sure to get started on your home redecoration ahead of time, so everything will be finished before the holidays arrive.
